With the Kindness and Gratitude Daily Reflection Journals (e.g K-5), you have the ability to turn your classroom or home into a center of kindness and emotional intelligence. This wonderful curriculum is a complete forty-three page pdf that contains research-based information from the fields of child development, affective neuroscience, and Somatic-Cognitive Integration Methodology as well as ten student worksheets that are ready for live implementation, and teacher implementation resources. This resource is designed specifically for classrooms with student populations from Kindergarten to 5th grade and is built on the facilitation of social skills through three developmental tiers: K-1: Sensory and Affective Identification (visual prompts/drawing) 2-3: Relational Reciprocation and Theory of Mind 4-5: Complex Systems (Ripple Effect) Thinking, and Intrinsic Altruism Through this curriculum, students will become "Kindness Detectives", engage in an Action-Reflection Cycle, create a map of gratitude through various ecosystems, develop their resilience using silver-lining prompts, and implement acts of altruism through a "Kindness Architect" blueprint. In addition, the curriculum includes theory around neuroplasticity, case studies of real-world use that show 42% drop in conflicts in the morning and 60% increase of student feeling "seen and valued", structural schematics (SVG format), differentiation strategies for reluctant learners, and a complete Teacher Implementation Guide. The Kindness Journals are perfect to use in morning meeting times, social/emotional learning blocks, restorative justice, homeschooling, or guidance/counseling sessions. This zero-preparation curriculum is available as a digital download, and you can easily print the material or assign the material digitally. The Kindness Journals can help increase emotional granularity, empathy, and an overall positive class culture within your classroom, while also providing a resource that supports SEL competencies as developed by CASEL. The reason teachers and parents are happy using this program: Results are measurable! Real-life classroom studies show that using the academic curriculum has decreased morning conflict by 42% and has helped 60% of the children who take part be recognized and appreciated. Both parents and teachers see these changes immediately! There is little preparation time needed to use the academic program. There are 10 ready-to-use worksheets and a teacher's guide with supportive materials for you to be able to use this program right now without spending any time preparing. The academic curriculum has been designed to have the ability to grow as the child grows, from drawing pictures in Kindergarten and First Grade to developing a sense of right and wrong in Fourth and Fifth grade. This ensures that each child in the room is able to be challenged and feel successful through the entire academic experience. The academic program uses what's called mirror neurons, neuroplasticity, and body language to ensure children will exhibit kindness as a daily behavior rather than as a rule. The academic program teaches children to look internally for their own feelings and authentic emotions as opposed to focusing on external rewards or expectations (performative kindness). The result of this process helps to create a child with a higher level of empathy and emotional resilience. Who this is for : This document has been created specifically for K-5 students (ages 5-11). It's not right for Pre-K (the material is too advanced) or Middle School./ For grades K-5, the three-level scaffolding aligns directly with elementary learner neuro-developmental stages., making this resource a match for the following categories of K-5 educators: -General education elementary classrooms (Grades K-5) -Families who homeschool their children -School Counselors / Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Coordinators -Special education / inclusive classrooms (differentiated activities provided) . -After school program or character education clubs . FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Honey Genre: Nonfiction (informational text with headings) Subject: Reading (Informational Text) / Life Science Primary Topic: How bees make honey and why it varies Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): P What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains the step-by-step process of how bees turn nectar (and sometimes honeydew) into thick honey stored in honeycomb cells. Teaches key science ideas using clear cause/effect language (enzymes change sugars; bees spread liquid so water can evaporate; honey thickens). Shows how a honey’s flower source affects its color and flavor, with examples (alfalfa vs. buckwheat). Clarifies that honey can become grainy/solid because sugar crystals form, not because it is “going bad.” Describes bee colony roles (queen, workers, drones) and explains that honey is made mainly to feed the colony. Learning Goals Explain, using details from the passage, how nectar becomes honey in a hive. Identify at least two changes that happen to the liquid as bees process it (enzymes change sugars; water evaporates; honey thickens). Describe why honey can taste and look different based on its flower source, including one example from the text. Explain why honey may turn grainy or solid in a jar, according to the passage. Describe why bees make honey and name the colony members mentioned (queen, workers, drones). Key Vocabulary From the Text nectar — sweet liquid that comes from flowers. honeydew — sugary liquid that comes from insects like aphids. enzymes — substances in bees that help change sugars. evaporate — when water changes and leaves as vapor. foraging — searching for food. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. These short readings fit into whatever time you have available. Each one includes a warm-up, a reading, and a set of questions, but it’s flexible — you can do just the reading, the full lesson, or skip the writing section if you need to. Each lesson focuses on a single topic so students don’t get lost. The writing is clear but never childish, making it perfect for grades two through five. Topics range from animals and science to history, inventions, and everyday things. No matter the level of the student, everyone should take away at least one new idea or fact from each lesson. The materials are easy to print, easy to explain, and require no setup. They work well for whole-class teaching, partner work, or independent study.

These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Answer Key There are answers for the multiple-choice questions, written response questions have sample answers, vocabulary answers and if there is a summary question then a sample summary will be provided as well. FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Marshmallows Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Science (informational reading) Primary Topic: How marshmallows become foam; heat and pressure Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): N What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains what a marshmallow is (a sweet foam) and how tiny air bubbles get trapped inside. Describes the process of making marshmallow mixture turn “fluffy” as it is beaten and thickens. Builds word knowledge through the origin of the name “marshmallow” from the marsh mallow plant and its “root sap.” Connects cause-and-effect in simple “food science”: heat toasts the outside and melts the inside; air pressure can make marshmallows puff up or shrink. Provides aligned support pages (trivia, questions, vocabulary tasks, writing, and extensions) that reuse the passage’s key ideas and terms. Learning Goals Explain why a marshmallow is called a “foam” using details from the text. Describe how air gets trapped in marshmallow ingredients while they are whipped or beaten. Tell why marshmallows are dusted with cornstarch. Explain where the word “marshmallow” comes from, based on the passage. Describe what heat does to a marshmallow over a fire or in hot chocolate. Describe how changes in air pressure can make marshmallows change size. Key Vocabulary From the Text Gelatin — ingredient that helps mixture set and hold bubbles. Cornstarch — powder dusted on marshmallows so they don’t stick. Cylinders — tube shapes, like short, round rolls. Sap — sticky liquid from a plant’s root. Pressure — force of air that can make bubbles shrink or grow. Cored Ed Encyclopedia Overview The Cored Ed Encyclopedia is a weekly series of lessons that you can pick up and use right away. Teaching critical social emotional skills while getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Practicing calming down strategies takes time, and one of the ways we can set up safe spaces for our learners to think through the consequences of certain actions is by role playing and creating stories. This resource (and the others that complement it in this series!) seeks to provide the scaffolding needed for learners to imagine and begin telling a story in written form. Then they're invited into 5 different STEAM extension activities to keep the conversations going. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Remember, there are over a year's worth of writing activities in this line! Keep the fun stories rolling by checking out holiday, winter, summer, life skills, and adventure writing activities from Melissa Is Teaching! This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders as they take on the cognitively heavy task of writing a narrative, while also supporting them with the scaffolding and inspiration in the provided idea matrix. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4+ extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. FULL CATALOG OF DOWNLOAD LINKS AND ENCYCLOPEDIA INDEX HERE Lesson Snapshot Title: Numbers Genre: Nonfiction Subject: Math (Number Systems) Primary Topic: Counting systems, place value, and zero Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): N What This Lesson Teaches Best Explains early counting methods (bodies, fingers, pebbles) and introduces the tally system as one mark per item. Shows why communities needed lasting number records as towns and trading grew, including wedge-shaped marks pressed into clay in Mesopotamia . Introduces different ways cultures wrote numbers (Egyptian hieroglyph symbols; Roman numerals using I, V, and X). Teaches how the base-ten system and place value use digits 0–9, and why zero matters for holding an empty place. Traces how Hindu-Arabic numerals spread through books, trade routes, and schools (including mention of Fibonacci) and appear today on receipts, maps, and screens. Learning Goals Describe two ways people counted before modern number symbols were common. Explain what a tally system is and why it can get “messy fast” for big amounts. Describe how people in Mesopotamia recorded numbers in soft clay and why those marks lasted. Explain how base-ten place value works (a digit’s spot helps decide its size). Explain why zero is important in the base-ten system, using the text’s explanation. Describe how the “method of the Indians” spread to new places over time. Key Vocabulary From the Text Tally — counting with one mark for each thing. Mesopotamia — an ancient place where early number writing appeared. Wedge-shaped — shaped like a wedge pressed into clay. Place value — a digit’s value depends on its position. Fibonacci — a thinker who helped spread the new number method.

Guided Reading Level H - Gravity Made Simple

Guided Reading Level H - Gravity Made Simple
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Science, Pre-Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Physics, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments

This Guided Reading Book - Gravity Made Simple (Level H) includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Gravity Made Simple Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Science (Physical Science / Earth & Space Science) Primary Topic: How gravity works on Earth and in space Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): H What This Book Teaches Best Gravity is a hidden, always-active force that pulls things toward Earth’s center. Gravity keeps objects on Earth’s surface—without it, things would float away. Gravity keeps the air close to Earth, forming the atmosphere that living things need to breathe. Gravity works in space too: Earth’s pull keeps the Moon in an orbit, and the Moon’s gravity affects ocean tides. Mass and gravity connect: more mass means a stronger gravitational pull, and weight measures gravity’s pull. Learning Goals Explain what gravity is and what it does to objects on Earth. Describe what happens when an object is dropped, according to the text. Tell how gravity helps keep objects (and air) close to Earth. Describe how Earth’s gravity affects the Moon’s orbit. Explain how the Moon’s gravity is connected to tides along the coast. Use the text to explain how mass relates to gravitational pull. Key Vocabulary From the Text gravity — a force that pulls things toward Earth. atmosphere — the thick layer of air around Earth. orbit — the path something takes around a planet. mass — how much matter is inside an object. tides — ocean water rising and falling along the coast. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: What do you think happens when you drop an object? Comprehension questions: What does the book say happens when an object is dropped? Comprehension questions: What does Earth’s pull do for the Moon’s path around Earth? Comprehension questions: What does the book say causes tides along the coast? Printing Tips 1. Best Printing Method (Recommended) “Booklet” Printing (Best if Available) If your printer or PDF viewer supports Booklet Printing , use this. Settings to use: Print mode: Booklet Paper size: Letter or A4 (either works) Orientation: Landscape Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Scaling: Fit to printable area Booklet subset: First test: Front sides only Then: Back sides only This will automatically: Pair pages correctly Put the cover on the outside Align everything for folding After printing, fold in half and staple along the spine . 2. If “Booklet” Printing Is NOT Available You can still print this correctly with manual duplex printing . Step-by-step: Open the PDF. Choose Print . Set: Orientation: Landscape Pages per sheet: 1 Print on both sides: Yes Flip on: Short edge Print all pages . Because each PDF page already contains two facing book pages, the result will still fold cleanly into a book. Thousands of Cored Education products are included with your TeachSimple membership.
