Learn Spelling Rules: Dropping 'f', 'ff', 'fe' & Adding 'ves' If a word ends in 'f', 'ff', or 'fe' add 'ves' to make it plural. If a word ends in 'o' add 'es'. This resource provides further examples of of how to change singular endings into plural words ending in 'f', 'ff' and 'fe', by adding 'ves'. For example, calf - calves. Words ending in an 'o' add 'es'. For example, tomato - tomatoes. The child will learn the exceptions to the rule. For example, some words take on a new word. For example, mouse - mice. There are practice pages for the child/children to fill in - to practise adding the correct endings to the root words given. Fill in the comparative adjective pages. You are in for a few surprises. Some words are regular, but some words are irregular. With 'Learn Spelling Rules Packs' spelling need not be dull. These work packs can be used at school or at home, to reinforce spelling rules in a fun way. Our character, Zoggy, the friendly alien, is a genius when it comes to spelling. He encourages the children to join him in his spelling workout. In other words, they must train and learn the spelling rules. Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Birthdays are a special time, but giving kids the opportunity to put together their own celebration can be telling! Give them control as they choose their celebration, who they'll celebrate with, the gifts they'll receive, and what kind of cake they'd like! Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing.
