Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. It's road trip time! As always, something is bound to go wrong, but we're working on resilience and creative problem solving in this fun writing activity. After choosing their character, conflict, and resolution, learners can continue to dive into the geography part of this challenge by researching destinations along the way. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the DOZENS of writing activities in our shop! From Camping and Oceans to Financial Literacy and Crazy School days-- we've got you covered! BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. Colour Bluebells
Creative Arts, Art, Science, Life Sciences, Nature & Plants, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Here is a picture of Bluebells for children to colour this spring! Who is this colouring picture of Bluebells for? Anybody. Older children will extend the activity further than younger ones, Uses for these colouring sheets Use to help children learn the name of the Bluebell and to recognise them. Use as part of a science lesson Use for a basis for collage work Paint or colour. Use to make greetings cards It is best if children colour the Bluebells picture following close observation, or from reference books, or after having looked at Bluebells in real life. Do remind children not to pick them! What is included in the pack? 1 sheet to be coloured 1 sheet giving an example of how the Bluebells could be coloured. The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Daffodil picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super made into a spring greeting card of all kinds. But it has the potential to teach much more. The UK National Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects - such as Bluebells, which are so common in springtime, to teach much about the natural world? Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Bluebell: ask questions: Where are the petals? What is this part called? Colouring a picture of Bluebell can also help children to become familiar with the particular characteristics of a flower - its shape, colour, and special features, for example.

Most pages include a tiny follow-up box—students draw or label 2–3 target words from a small word box, add a quick count, or color in the scene—so the activity reinforces both content and skills in a highly engaging format. Each completed set includes: A themed maze page. A simple student instruction strip. An answer key showing the solved path for teacher support or self-checking Themes Included These mazes cover a wide range of fun, age-appropriate themes, including: Seasons & Holidays (e.g., Halloween, Easter, Valentine’s Day) Math-Lite Connections (e.g., quick counts, number words) Everyday Topics (e.g., Animals, Weather, School) Special Units (e.g., Health, Earth Day, Sports, Kindness) Each topic reflects students’ real-life experiences and interests while strengthening problem-solving, visual scanning, and fine-motor control in a playful, highly visual way. Easy extensions (optional): Time it: solve once in pencil, then try to beat the time in pen Retell the route using sequence words (first, next, then, finally) Count intersections or turns and graph the results Write a 1–2 sentence mini-story about the scene using the target words Design a tiny maze in the corner for a partner to solve Differentiation tips: Offer a finger-trace pass before pencils for emerging learners Highlight the borders of the correct region on first attempts Use thicker-line versions or simpler pages to build confidence Pair roles: “navigator” gives directions; “driver” traces the path For similar downloads and other frees, do check out Cored Group on TeachSimple.

Nonfiction Early Reader: Earth Science Articles
Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Grade 1, 2, 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Early reader earth science articles that your students can study and use as reading material, homework, or research for writing science reports. These articles are written at a simplified reading level for your new readers. This set of science articles is a rich resource that can be used in so many good ways! I would estimate that these articles would be good for 1st-3rd graders. I hope you enjoy! How to Use This: Use these earth science articles in any way you want. Hand them out as reading material or use them as the basis for science research reports. I enjoyed giving my students a highlighter and asking them to highlight the keywords and phrases. Then we shared what we each thought were the most important things from the article. If you go this route, you could have students read articles independently or you may even pair them up to partner read. Having students read the article more than once will solidify their comprehension. When you are discussing keywords and phrases that they highlighted, you can do so as a whole group. This allows students to hear the thought processes of their classmates. While you are discussing articles out loud, you can ask comprehension questions along the way. Reading these articles in small groups, as independent work, in pairs, or as homework are all great options. Most teachers love to use these as resources for students to read and then use the information to write little reports or summaries. I hope you can find a good way to use them in your classroom too! What You Get: · 29 early reader nonfiction earth science articles Some of the articles included are: “The Layers of the Earth” “The Deepest Hole Ever Dug” “The Earth is Always Moving” “What Causes Earthquakes” “How Landforms Are Made”
