Christmas Memory Writing Challenge | Community & Lessons

Christmas Memory Writing Challenge | Community & Lessons
ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Christmas memories range from time in community to cozy family moments! Learners will explore different activities, people they spend time with, surprising things that happened, and lessons they learned. Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy learning about space and demonstrating their knowledge of it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. *Note, some learners may require a basic explanation of what stocks, investments, and savings accounts are. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

Breaking the Big Words: Volume 3, Set 5 Learning to break words into syllables builds decoding skills for early elementary students. This resource focuses on syllable patterns VC/V and types Bossy R, with 2-3 syllable words. Visual supports and specific introduction of patterns foster student success. Students first learn a syllable type fully before moving on. Supports are gradually removed as independence grows. This bridges into applying skills while reading. To generalize the strategy: Have students break words while reading leveled texts, vocabulary, or worksheets . Transition to copying and dividing on paper or whiteboards independently. With practice across this systematic sequence of letter patterns, students gain decoding confidence. Skillful decoding equips young readers for success. This resource can assist teachers in unlocking that achievement.

Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Jungles are one of the most biodiverse areas on our planet! Let's get your 2nd-5th graders exploring different jungles around the world, consider the companions on their trek, something surprising that happened, and a feature of jungle conservation they'll incorporate into their writing. Sight Word Fluency Packet - land

Sight Word Fluency Packet - land
ELA, Reading, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Sight Word Fluency Packet - land - These sight word worksheets encourage all students to practice sight word reading fluency for the target sight word. There are three different fluency practice pages that all focus on learning to recognize, spell, and read the target sight word in context. Allowing students to practice the sight word in context gives students the ability to connect the sight word's meaning and grammatical usage to help gain a greater understanding of the target word. Each passage repeats the target word multiple times for extra practice with the word. Students will practice reading, writing, reading comprehension, and spelling high frequency words with these fluency pages. Included in this sight word fluency packet: * One reading fluency page that contains a single passage for students to read and find the sight word. * One write and read fluency page where students will write the target sight word and then read the passage. * One read, write, and draw fluency page where students will read a sentence, copy the sentence then draw a picture to illustrate the sentence. When can these be used? * Literacy activities * Independent Reading Practice * Small group activities * Shared or Partner reading activities * Homework * Morning Work * Emergency sub plans * Extra reading practice The reading fluency page and the write and read page include the same passage and is the perfect way to differentiate between students who need to focus on just recognizing the word while reading and those who need more practice with writing and spelling the sight word in the correct context. These sight word pages are no prep. Teachers only need to print the pages and hand them to the students to read and complete. This packet focuses on the sight word: land.
