Short Vowel e: 2 Decodable Reading Books and Supporting Activities
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Spelling, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools
This is a set of 2, short vowel /e/, decodable phonic reading books, with supporting activity packs to help struggling readers develop reading fluency. Each lesson focuses on just ten decodable words with each medial vowel sound including a few words with consonant blends. What is included: This is a pack of 2 lessons (2 books, 2 games, 2 packs of worksheets) - 2 for each vowel sound: a total time of 2 weeks of phonics instruction. Who is this set of short vowel decodable readers for? This pack is part of the Reading Made Simple special needs reading and spelling programme. It has been trialled and tested on children with a range of processing difficulties which result in poor recall problems. These children are marked by having difficulty recalling words that have been sounded out when they meet them again and for whom, therefore, reading fluency seems elusive. They have been tried and tested on children with severe dyslexia, children with Cerebral Palsy and those with general learning difficulties. Children using these books are expected to be confident at reading and spelling CVC words with a short vowel and at reading words with consonant blends and a short vowel sound, but may still need support to spell them. This set of decodable reading books has a more controlled vocabulary than our main set of CVC Decodable reading books and our Consonant Blends books . For best effect, these phonic lessons should be taught in order as each lesson builds on the one before. Reading Made Simple for Special Needs A 100% systematic phonic reading programme for all ages and abilities. Give your child a Head start in reading! Due to its 100% systematic nature, this reading programme is highly suitable for any child with a special need, including dyslexia (or suspected), or any other need that is causing a child to have difficulties learning to read. What makes this reading programme different? · It has its own, easy-to-download and print phonic reading books, making it accessible to many children worldwide. · Each book carefully builds on the vocabulary of those that have gone before, providing much repetition, without relying on predictable text. · Pictures aid the storyline without encouraging reading from the pictures – i.e. guessing. · The vocabulary is based on phonic families, which are introduced in a carefully planned way. · True sight words – those that cannot be sounded out - are kept to the very minimum. Most words are introduced in their phonic family wherever possible. · It is truly multisensory, using the power of the hand. We not only look at the words, but we write them too. This is powerful and has the bonus of turning the child not only into a reader but into a writer as well. Typical signs that this programme can help: · Difficulty recalling words when seen on flashcards or when reading texts, which results in no or little reading fluency · b/d letter reversal of a chronic nature – i.e. the child has not grown out of it · Difficulty ordering letters in words: E.g. top becomes pot. · Difficulty differentiating between like words: spoon/soon; back/black; sheep/sleep etc… · Difficulty tracking words across a page To help all children succeed, each phonic family is taught in two lessons, each a week in duration. This speed has been tried and tested to be the optimum speed to allow children to absorb new information without mental overload. You may find that some children need longer - but never less. Each phonic family is split into half and only 5/6 words in a family are studied each week. Activities are provided to give the child plenty of exposure to the new sound and the set of words that contain it. These activities are not hard, but simply bring the child face to face with the words, first individually, then in sentences, and finally in longer passages. We also seek to strengthen knowledge of blends and develop phonemic awareness through the activities, much needed by these learners. In all, the way that Reading Made Simple has been designed reduces the burden on the working memory, making it easier for children to learn to read. Children relax as they meet familiar words again and again. They begin to say – sometimes for the first time, ‘I can read’. With this programme, you can help a non-reader today! What is included: Full teaching instructions Flashcards 10 packs of activities and worksheets 10 reading books 10 games Full teaching instructions What next? Once completed, students should move straight on to the /ck/ Decodable Reading Books and Activity Pack.

CVC Short Vowel Phonic Reading Books Fully Decodable + Workbooks
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools
Included in this pack are 16, FREE to download, phonic reading books with 5 matching phonic workbooks . These first phonic reading books help to support the blending of CVC words with a short vowel sound, suitable for those who just beginning to read with phonics. Includes scope and sequence. These books are followed by our sets of: 12 Consonant Blends Reading Books 22 Digraph Reading Books Who are these first readers for? They provide a graded phonics reading programme for children of ages and abilities, including special needs. They work well with children with processing difficulties including /dyslexia, or suspected Dyslexia, and autism due to the fact that they are so highly structured, Who can use these first phonic readers? Parents, teachers, special needs teachers, private tutors, anyone who needs them! About these first Phonic readers These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/sight) words a, is, the, of, which are introduced only gradually. These short words should be learned on a flashcards first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The book s begins with just a few words being introduced. For example, the first book only uses the words a, at, cat, fat, rat, ran. The whole scope and sequence is included in the pack for your reference. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Special needs Due to these books' systematic, phonetic nature, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. They have been thoroughly tested by my current pupils all of whom are boys. Even my nine-year old boy pupil loves them. They can also be used with young EFL/ESL learners. Phonic workbooks to match the reading books This download also includes five phonic workbooks which accompany the reading books. These help children to read and spell CVC words in a fun way while reinforcing the vocabulary of the reading books. What is included? 1 Zip file with 16 Reading book PDF files, five matching workbooks in PDF form and one information PDF for the parent/teacher.

They are followed by: Level 1 Set 1: Common digraphs Level 1 Set 2: Silent E Main features: •The Consonant Blends readers only use the words: I go to no •All the other words are 4 letter, decodable words with a short vowel sound and an initial or final consonant blend. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words gradually introduced and repeated, so building confidence and helping children gain reading fluency. 2 matching workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. CVC Word Families for Beginning Readers: Stamp it, Make it, Trace it, and Write it
ELA, Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Grade 1, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Lesson Plans, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
This CVC unit is engaging for students as they practice reading and learning the short vowel sounds while students cut and make the words, trace the words, write the words, and stamp out the words. Reading short vowel / rhyming words is an introduction to reading. Repetitive practice of reading these words is also another fundamental practice to help students read. In this unit, students will practice word families that have the same ending. Teach students that word families rhyme and only have a different beginning sound. For each word family, students will practice making, tracing, writing, or stamping six different words. Some of the words are proper nouns or names given to people or pets. There are also nonsensical words that are not real. The purpose of these words is to teach how to sound out words only within the same word family. File contains the following word family worksheets : ad, an, at, ed, en, et, in, ip, it, og, op, ot, ug, un, ut. It also includes all the letters needed to cut out for the "make it" worksheets .
