This activity is a way to teach students about horse racing and sports. It is simple and easy to understand. The word search has lots of words like horse, race, track, jockey, speed, finish, champion and trophy. Students will get better at reading and spelling when they do this activity. This word search is a way to get students interested in sports and famous racing events. When students search for words they will also learn to focus and pay attention to details. They will understand what teamwork and competition are about. This activity is great for classrooms, homeschooling or literacy centers. It combines learning a language with sports and general knowledge. This makes learning fun and exciting. π― What we want students to get out of this activity: Students will learn about the Belmont Stakes. They will learn vocabulary related to horse racing and sports. They will get better at spelling reading and recognizing words. They will develop attention to detail. Get better at scanning things visually. They will become confident and independent when completing tasks. They will understand why effort, competition and sportsmanship are important. Here is how to do the activity: Give students the word search puzzle. We have it in color and black and white. Ask students to look at the list of racing-related words before they start. Set a timer for 7β12 minutes to make it exciting. Students search for. Circle or highlight the words. Encourage students to work in pairs to check each otherβs answers. Review the answers together using the key. What grades or ages is this activity for: This activity is perfect for students in 2nd to Grade typically ages 7 to 11 years old. We can adapt it for learning levels. When to use this activity: This activity works well during language arts lessons sports-themed activities, morning work or homework.
