10 Tips to Become a National Board Certified Teacher eBook

You’ve probably heard that becoming NBCT can be a long, grueling process. It certainly is a lot of work, but there are many benefits to being an NBC Teacher. Some teachers pursue National Board Certification for the status, while others do it for the ability to teach in any State in the nation. Many school districts offer a monetary compensation to NBCT’s.

This is an eBook titled 10 Tips to Become a National Board Certified Teacher. In a nutshell, candidates are asked to do four components and are given approximately one year to complete.

Component 1: Content knowledge testing at an assessment center. – Candidates are required to go to a testing center to answer a multiple-choice test (45 questions in 1 hour), and three essay questions (30 minutes each) related to their area of certification. Practice answering those questions at home, beforehand, timing yourself.

Component 2: Differentiation in Instruction – Assessment of Student Learning, Analysis of Student Work and Reflection.

Component 3: Teaching Practice and Learning Environment – Video Analysis and Reflection. The candidate will create two videos (10-15 minutes each) from two instructional units demonstrating effective teaching, learning environment, and student learning.

Component 4: Effective and Reflective Practitioner – Documented Accomplishments, Contributions to Student Learning Outside Your Classroom - Document your work outside the classroom with families and the larger community, and with colleagues and the larger profession
