These capitalizing titles task cards give students in grades 5 to 7 one clear title-case rule and twelve chances to apply it. The rule sheet says to capitalize the first and last words, keep a short list of small words lowercase inside a title (such as a, the, and, for, of and with), and capitalize every other word, including short verbs like is and are.
The twelve cards build in four steps. Students rewrite four lowercase titles, choose between two versions of a title and explain their choice, find the one wrong word in three titles and name the rule it breaks, and finally invent two titles that must use a given interior word. Two response pages keep answers organized by card number, and the answer key gives every corrected title, the reason for each choice and sample original titles.

How many task cards are there?

Is there an answer key?
Yes. Page 5 gives the corrected titles for Cards 1-4, the right choice and reason for Cards 5-7, the error and rule for Cards 8-10, and sample titles for Cards 11-12.
