This syllable sorting activity make a great hands on literacy center for students to practice counting syllables in words. The bold, colorful, and easy to recognize pictures allow students to count the syllables of each word and sort them on the correct mat independently.
Teachers can place magnets on the back of each piece and allow students to match the cards on a magnetic surface.
How to Use:
Students will begin by locating and laying out the bottom of each Christmas tree. These pieces are the ones with the numbers 1-4 on them. Students will then take the triangle Christmas tree pieces and build each Christmas tree by placing the correct picture above the number on the base of the tree according to how many syllables are in each word.
When to Use:
Morning Tubs or Baskets - This sorting activity is great for students to work on while their classmates arrive to class.
Literacy Center - Simply place the Christmas tree cards in the literacy center for students to complete independently or with a small group.
Small Group Activity - The teacher can work with a small group of students who need extra practice counting syllables in words.
