This Letter K Counting to 10 Center is a counting to 10 math matching center for the letter K. This resource is great for letter recognition and practicing counting with tens frames. This is a quick and easy activity to give students who need practice with recognizing the lowercase form of the letter K, who need practice recognizing numbers up to 10, as well as for those students who need extra practice counting to 10. Middle School Math Stations or Centers: Adding and Subtracting Integers

Math stations are a great way to get students engaged as they move about the room and work collaboratively with their peers. But they are a lot of work to prepare! This ready-to-go set of 5 stations will supplement a unit about adding and subtracting integers. Ways to Use : You can break your class into 5 groups and have them rotate one at a time through the centres, giving them 10-20 minutes at each one. Or, start students at certain centres and then allow them to move around at their own pace as long as no one centre gets too full. I find these are a great resource as you are finishing your unit and preparing for the unit test. Station 1: Students solve four realistic word problems using integers. (optional: set out white boards for students to use) Station 2: Students play a dice game to practice adding and subtracting integers. (supplies needed: 2 dice per pair- they must be different in some way so one can be + and one can be -) Station 3: Students compare temperatures in two cities (in degrees Celsius) and create a number line. Online game extension. (supplies needed: laptop or tablet) Station 4: Students use integers to decide if a football team would score a touchdown based on 8 plays. Station 5: Students do an integer drill and explain their thinking about integers in words. Grades to Use With: These stations will work well in grades 4-7 or high school special education classrooms. Standards: CCSS6.NS.C.5 Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation. Writing Center Words & Write-the Room Activity – BEACH

Help your students write about fun at the beach with these sixteen beach themed words and images for your K-2 classroom Writing Center. Words with images include ball, beach bag, bucket, crab, chair, flippers, sandcastle, seagull, shells, shovel, starfish, swim shorts, swimsuit, surfboard, towel, and umbrella. My students LOVE the Writing Center! I have lots of tools and “help” available for them, plus these themed word pages which they adore. I actually print two of each, so there is no fuss about having to share, and I laminate them before placing in the Writing Center for durability. Having laminated themed word pages, students can easily grab one and use it to help write their stories. Page 4 of the PDF is for the Writing Center. Print and laminate one or two and place it in the Writing Center for your students to access as needed. Also included are 16 cards for a Write–the–Room activity if you choose to use them. (I have only used this with my Kindergarten class.) These cards are four-per-page, with the same words and images used for the Writing Center. Pages 5-8 of the PDF are cards for use as a Write-the-Room activity. You may wish to laminate for durability to be able to use year-after-year, and use sticky tack (poster putty) to mount it to walls, bookshelves, file cabinets, etc. I find this is easier than tape. On of my grade-level teachers prints in gray scale, tapes them up, and then lets students take them home after use. Whatever works best for you. Recording pages for the Write-the-Room are included on pages 9 and 10. Page 9 is a full-size recording sheet, and page 10 has 2 half-size recording sheets if you use mini-clip boards like I do. Please note - the first three pages are for "packaging" purposes.

Do you need some new ideas for your grade 6 or 7 units on ratios and rates and proportional relationships? Here's a printer-ready set of 5 math centers for your intermediate students. These activities include questions about part-to-part and part-to-whole rations, real-life rates, and the relationships between ratios, fractions, and percentages. I have included many real world examples such as planning a road trip, calculating unit prices at the store, and creating a visual design.
