However, his family forbids music, as they believe it's a curse that has plagued their family for generations. Along the way, he teams up with a charming trickster named Hector and embarks on a journey to uncover the secret behind his family's ban on music and to return to the Land of the Living before it's too late. "Coco" received widespread critical acclaim for its stunning animation, vibrant colors, memorable characters, and its heartfelt and emotional story. The movie won two Academy Awards, for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song ("Remember Me"). It has also been praised for its respectful portrayal of Mexican culture and traditions, particularly the celebration of the Day of the Dead.
