Create an Original COAT OF ARM / FAMILY CREST

The objective of this (fun!) assignment is to engage students in expressing their personality through their creativity, critical thinking, and design skills. By creating a personalized family crest, students will deepen their understanding of symbolism and storytelling, while also fostering a sense of pride and connection to their roots.

Encourage students to explore the meaning and symbolism behind various heraldic elements such as animals, plants, colors, and symbols. Provide resources such as books, websites, and videos to facilitate their exploration.

Students brainstorm ideas for their family crest based on their research and the symbolism they've explored. They should consider elements that represent their personal values, aspirations, and cultural background. Students may create rough sketches of their crest designs, experimenting with different layouts and combinations of symbols. After receiving feedback from peers or the instructor, students refine their sketches, paying attention to composition, balance, and clarity of symbolism.

OR Using design software or online tools, students digitize their final crest designs, incorporating colors, textures, and additional details to bring their vision to life.
