Materials include Act 1 and Act 2 lyrics documents, a Washington-songs selection, learning logs, song-character charts, diagnostic prompts and notes, seminar preparation, song analysis, character-reference slides, Instagram-style assignment templates and examples, and creative-response choices.
The culminating writing task provides an essay prompt, instructions, rubric criteria and a list of readings. Obtain the referenced historical readings and CommonLit assessments separately. Use the classroom templates for student responses; public social-media posting is not required.

What does the culminating essay ask students to do?
Students analyze how Miranda both accurately and inaccurately portrays history in Hamilton — the information he included, emphasized, left out, or modified — and how those choices shape a listener's understanding of a character, the period, or the musical, supported by primary and secondary sources. The one-page document includes instructions, rubric criteria and a reading list; the listed source texts are not included.
What are the options in the creative assessments?
The choice assignment lets students either memorize at least three stanzas for a character (performers are excused from memorizing) or invent a ten-actor dream cast plus new costumes or an original three-stanza song. Separately, students build Instagram stories for characters using the provided template, and can research one of fourteen listed musicals alone or in groups of up to three.
