With the wide variety of addition mats available, the teacher can easily choose one that aligns with the math lesson they are teaching or pair mats for students who need help with various addition strategies. Counters should be provided to assist those students who need extra help with solving each addition equation. Students will take one addition fact card at a time and solve it using the counters on their math mat. If the teacher wishes for a written assignment to grade, there is an optional recording sheet for students to record the math facts they solved.

There are a variety of counters that can be used to solve these problems. The teacher can add mini erasers, or other small manipulatives to use as counters. The cards and counters can be easily stored in the same box for an easy to set up, clean up and store math station.
