Even if you don’t use Envision, this packet works well as a stand-alone unit to teach expressions, order of operations, number relationships and patterns.

This product is aligned to, but not affiliated with, Envision Math Grade 5. It was originally created for use in my own classroom and has since been adapted to support teachers everywhere.

The notes pages mirror the quiz format closely, so working a notes page and its matching quiz section back to back reinforces the vocabulary students need for word problems like translating expressions into words.
Lesson 8.7 on extending tables and finding relationships between two patterns is a common trouble spot — the guided 'now try these' practice on that page is worth doing as a full class before independent work.
Because page numbers have been removed from the file, compare the lesson topics with your textbook edition before assigning the packet.

For example, express the calculation “add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2” as 2 × (8 + 7).
