Number sense refers to a child's fluidity and flexibility with numbers. Number sense helps children understand what numbers mean. Good number sense improves students' performance in mental math and gives them tools to look at numbers from multiple perspectives. Build students' number sense by showing them the multitude of ways you can represent one single number (ie: on fingers, dots on dice, tally sticks, etc.)
To use, simply download, print, & hang! Posters can be resized to print two numbers to one piece of paper prior to print by changing the printing layout to 2 pages per sheet. Use these posters for math discussions and ask questions like "what is the same about showing 7 on fingers and showing 7 with ten frames?" Student will have several opportunities to see the addition within each number like 5 fingers on one hand and 2 fingers on the other hand is the same as 5+2=7.
