National Find a Rainbow Day Word Scramble - Classroom Activity
I made this rainbow word scramble last March for my 2nd graders to celebrate Find a Rainbow Day. It's a simple 2-page worksheet with 24 weather and color words that kids can unscramble. You'll find easy words like "sky" and "blue" mixed with trickier ones like "spectrum" and "refraction" - perfect for different skill levels in your class.
When we used this activity, I paired it with our science lesson on light and weather. The kids worked on it while waiting for a real rainbow to appear after our water prism experiment. They loved racing to see who could solve "violet" first!
This PDF includes:
Page 1: The word scramble with large print
Page 2: An answer key for quick checking
Great for:
• Rainy day indoor activities
• Science units on weather
• Color recognition practice
• Morning work in spring
I chose words we actually use when studying rainbows - not just colors but terms like "droplet" and "horizon" too. Last year, solving "double rainbow" led to a great class discussion!
Format: Basic 2-page PDF
Teacher Tip: Have students draw their own rainbow after finishing!
