National Walking Day word Scramble puzzle worksheet activity
National Walking Day Word Scramble - Get Moving & Learning!
I made this word scramble for my 3rd graders last year when we celebrated National Walking Day (April 5th). It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 scrambled words about walking and movement - from easy ones like "step" and "path" to more challenging terms like "pedometer" and "hydration."
We used this activity right before our school-wide Wellness Walk. The kids worked on it while lacing up their sneakers - it was the perfect way to get them thinking about healthy habits while we got ready to move. Some of their favorite words to unscramble were "sneakers," "energy," and "stretch."
You'll get:
• Page 1: The word scramble with plenty of writing space
• Page 2: An answer key for quick checking
I chose words that actually come up when we talk about walking for health:
Basic terms: "walk," "shoes," "pace"
Health words: "heart," "active," "oxygen"
Safety terms: "signal," "crosswalk"
The kids loved racing to see who could unscramble "exercise" first! We kept the completed sheets in our PE portfolios to reference during our fitness unit.
Format: No-frills PDF (2 pages)
Teacher Tip: Have students highlight their favorite word and demonstrate it (like jumping when they solve "jog")!
