Learning objectives

Recognize and produce the 'ng' sound in single-syllable words across four common endings (-ang, -ing, -ong, -ung).
Read and spell 'ng' family words, including blend-extended forms such as string, spring, and swing.
Complete and write full sentences containing 'ng' words, including identifying and correcting an error in a given sentence.
Use rhyme and word-family patterns to read and generate new 'ng' words.

Teaching tips

Confirm students are already blending and segmenting CVC words securely and know their vowel sounds before assigning these sheets, since the teacher notes specifically caution against introducing 'ng' too early.
Follow the pack's built-in sequence: sound recognition and tracing first, then word-family sorting and rhyming, then sentence-level reading, writing, and proofreading.
Hold back the two pages using the word 'thing' (pages 18 and 29) and the page using the 'ck' blend (page 33) until those sounds have been taught separately, per the teacher notes.
Use the proofreading sentences ('Bess can song a sing,' 'The string not is strong') as a check that students can both read and correct 'ng' word errors, not just recognize them.
