What's included in the file:
- Vocabulary Lists These lists have each word, its meaning, its part of speech, and a sample sentence using the word.
- Vocabulary Tests These tests have two parts:
Part 1: Vocabulary Words. There are blank spaces where students can write the vocabulary words based on either the definitions provided or the words themselves.
Part 2: Complete the Sentences. In this part, students fill in the missing word(s) to finish the sentence.
- Word Searches Here's a fun way to practice all the vocabulary words. Simply print out the worksheets and let your students have a good time while learning these words on their own!
- Answer Keys The answers to both parts of the vocabulary test are provided on this page. Just remember to print only pages 1-3 to avoid including the answer keys.

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Students will define and correctly use eight grade-3 vocabulary words per unit in context.
Students will complete sentences by selecting the correct vocabulary word from a word list.
Students will locate vocabulary words in a word search using definition clues rather than the words themselves.
Teaching tips
Introduce the flashcard-style definition page first so students see each word's part of speech and a model sentence before attempting the fill-in-the-blank page.
Use the word search as a review step after the sentence-completion worksheet, since its clues are definitions rather than the words themselves, requiring recall rather than simple word-matching.
Because this file samples only Week 1 of each of six units, use it to preview the vocabulary routine's format before committing to a full-unit purchase.
The included answer key for every unit supports independent or center-based use without teacher grading of each item.
Skills covered
Vocabulary acquisition — students learn 48 words (eight per unit) with definitions, parts of speech, and example sentences.
Cloze sentence completion — students select and write the correct vocabulary word to complete eight sentences per unit.
Definition-based word search — students locate vocabulary words in a puzzle grid using definition clues instead of the word itself.
Good to know
Questions teachers ask about this resource
How is each unit's vocabulary reviewed after the initial definitions?
Every unit repeats the same three-step sequence: a fill-in-the-blank sentence worksheet, then a word search where the clues are definitions rather than the words themselves, so students recall the word from its meaning a second time.
