Slope/Rate of Change FOLLOW THE PATTERN
About This Product
This resource was developed to support the requirements of the 8th Grade Functions Standards below, specifically RATE OF CHANGE.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.8.F.B.4
Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (x, y) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
This practice is meant to be basic and will hopefully help your students bridge the gap between learning about slope and then switching to graphing slope & y-intercept all in one. This should allow your students to focus just on slope before adding in the skill of identifying and plotting the y-intercept as well.
If this is the first time your students have followed a slope pattern on a graph, I recommend this as a direct instruction activity, at least until they get the hang of it!
