Movie Synopsis: The Lion King follows the journey of Simba, a young lion cub, as he struggles to figure out what he wants to do later in life. After his father, the king, is killed by his uncle, Simba runs away from home, because feels responsible for his father's death. As he grows up, Simba meets new animal species and makes new friends, who help him rediscover his strength and purpose. Eventually, Simba returns to face his uncle and take his rightful place as king of the Pride Lands, restoring balance to the ecosystem and to the kingdom.
Speaking and listening standards are also covered, depending on how many of the above topics you discuss in your classroom. The movie guide provides an opportunity for teachers to "get back" some of that class time at the end of a unit, whether needed for grading projects, working one on one with students, or finishing up assessments. Other students are engaged and still actively searching for the topics covered in the unit discussed.
