About this resource

A definition and model introduce analogies before pupils try ten questions. Five multiple-choice items provide possible answers, while five open-response items ask pupils to supply their own. Use the change in format to move from recognising a relationship to explaining and completing it independently.

Curriculum reference — England: Word meanings and relationship complexity determine suitability; avoid inherited grade tags. Word-meaning discussion is a partial Year2 vocabulary connection; the activity does not cover the full reading programme. Word-relationship reasoning is a limited Grade3 vocabulary connection, subject to teacher selection of unfamiliar words. Selected skills only; reference stage is not an overall reading age, complete curriculum coverage, or an automatic recommendation for every learner.
