Alphabet Order: Before and After Letters

This one-page activity asks pupils to find a letter's neighbour in the alphabet. They look at each prompt and write the missing preceding or following letter, with four final prompts asking for both neighbours. An alphabet strip can support early attempts; pupils can then say the surrounding letters aloud to check the order.

Curriculum reference — England: Ontario naming letters in/out of order is a limited connection; not a sound-letter assessment. Naming the alphabet in order is explicit in England Year1. Selected skills only; reference stage is not an overall reading age, complete curriculum coverage, or an automatic recommendation for every learner.
