Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Assemble a country profile from research, covering continent, capital, demonym, currency and neighbouring states
Describe a country's territory and climate in continuous prose rather than as a single fact
Place six events in Argentine history, from the 1516 arrival of Spanish colonisation to the return to democracy after military rule
Identify Argentina's principal cities and the main attractions of its capital
Write an extended paragraph characterising a national culture, drawing the strands of the research together
Teaching tips
Nothing is pre-filled, so agree the research sources first - the history column in particular needs a reference that names the May Revolution's leader and the 1853 document, which a general atlas will not carry
The prompts split cleanly into a geography half and a history half; if the sheet is used across two lessons, the column break on page 1 is the natural place to divide it
The capital city is asked for twice - once in the header block and once on page 2 as the lead-in to the seven attractions - so tell students the second instance is the cue for the attractions list rather than a repeat
The seven-attraction list and the closing culture question take far longer than the short factual prompts; set them as the homework half if class time is short
The same frame works for any country, so a class can be split across South American states and the completed sheets pooled as a comparison
Skills covered
Structured country research - students gather continent, capital, demonym, language, currency and bordering states into a single profile rather than answering scattered questions.
Locating a country in its region - one prompt asks which countries Argentina borders and where, so the answer has to describe relative position rather than list names.
Historical sequencing - six prompts pin dated events, from Spanish colonisation beginning in 1516 through the 1810 May Revolution and the 1853 document to the end of military rule.
Descriptive writing from research - the territory, climate, economy and culture prompts all supply multiple ruled lines and expect continuous prose.
Sifting a source for a specific figure - short prompts such as the year of the declaration of independence and the currency require the student to extract one fact from a longer text.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
What does a student need alongside the sheet?
A source to research from. Every space is blank - the sheet supplies the prompts and the ruled lines, and the student fills them from an atlas, a textbook or an online source of your choosing.
How much history does the sheet cover, as against geography?
About half of the first page. A dedicated column asks who led the May Revolution in 1810, what year independence was declared from Spain, which explorer began Spanish colonisation in 1516, what document was established in 1853, when the wave of European immigration occurred, and in what year the country returned to democracy after the military dictatorship.
Which prompts take the longest to complete?
Two on the second page. Naming seven attractions in the capital gives each entry two ruled lines, and the closing question - "What is the culture of Argentina like?" - runs to seven full-width lines, so both call for extended writing rather than a single fact.
