The flashcards feature a wide range of CVCe words that are commonly used in early reading materials. Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Trace and copy CVCe (silent-e) words to build handwriting and spelling-pattern familiarity.
  • Recognise that a single long-vowel sound can appear across multiple CVCe word pairs (e.g., face, bake, dale all use long a).

Teaching tips

  • Introduce one vowel-sound group of pages at a time (long a, then long i, and so on) rather than the full twenty-page set at once, since the pages are already organised that way.
  • Have pupils say each word aloud before tracing it, connecting the visual pattern to its long-vowel sound.

Skills covered

  • CVCe word tracing — pupils trace and copy word pairs such as face/lace and mine/nine to reinforce letter formation.
  • Long-vowel pattern recognition — pupils see multiple words sharing one vowel sound grouped on the same page.
