About this resource

This three-page Transformers (2007) movie guide supports intermediate to advanced ESL learners in Years 8–13. Students record film information, collect vocabulary and meanings, describe ten characters, build a timeline, explain a favourite scene and write a review.

A final creative-writing prompt asks for three diary pages from a character’s point of view. Supply the film and additional writing paper separately. Model a response or pre-teach vocabulary when learners need support.

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Extract and record basic film production information (director, genre, cast, release year) in English.

  • Describe named characters from a film using written English.

  • Write a first-person narrative (diary format) from a fictional character's point of view, capturing thoughts and emotions.

Teaching tips

  • Watch the film Transformers with students, or assign relevant clips, before distributing this guide, since it assumes familiarity with the plot and named characters.

  • Model one character description as a class before students complete the remaining seven independently.

  • Use the diary-entry prompt as a longer writing assessment after the shorter character-description sections are complete.

Skills covered

  • Character description writing — students write English descriptions of eight named film characters based on their roles and actions in the movie.

  • Narrative point-of-view writing — students compose three diary entries in the voice of a chosen character, describing that character's thoughts and emotions across different scenes.
