Leaves and Their Shapes word search, scramble and crossword
⭐I made this leaves puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our plants unit. The kids could point to a leaf but had no idea how to describe different shapes like oval or lobed. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like lobed, oval, heart-shaped, needle, fern, maple, oak, vein, and simple. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help them learn the names.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they mix up "heart-shaped" and "hand-shaped" sometimes. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple tiny leaf outlines but nothing too busy.
Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers go outside, find a leaf, and draw its shape on the back. The kids actually enjoy these.
