Place Value Flip Book

Students will assemble a flip book by stacking, stapling, and cutting pages according to the printed directions.

Students will flip the three digit columns to build different three-digit numbers.

Students will identify which column of a formed number represents hundreds, tens, and ones.

Copy the back cover onto cardstock, or cut a piece of construction paper to the same size, for a sturdier base before stapling.

Stack the digit pages in numerical order on top of the back cover and make sure the front cover/name page ends up on top before stapling.

Cut each interior page three-quarters of the way up without cutting all the way through, so the flaps stay attached and flip independently.

Have students flip the columns to try several three-digit combinations and say which digit is in the hundreds, tens, and ones place for each.

Three-digit place value — students build numbers by flipping independent hundreds, tens, and ones columns and identify what each digit represents.

Following multi-step directions — students assemble the flip book themselves using the stacking, stapling, and cutting steps on page 1.

Number formation practice — repeated flipping through digits 0-9 in each column gives students hands-on practice forming a range of three-digit numbers.
