The Forest Biome word search, scramble and crossword
⭐I made this forest biome puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our habitats unit. The kids could name animals but struggled with layers like canopy, understory, and forest floor. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like deciduous, coniferous, canopy, understory, moss, fern, deer, bear, owl, and mushroom. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to reinforce the vocabulary.
The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search is good for quiet time after lunch. The scramble gets them talking because they argue over how to spell "deciduous." The crossword I save for partners. I added a couple simple tree and leaf drawings but nothing too busy.
Works for 2nd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I ask early finishers to pick two forest animals and write how they survive on the back. The kids actually like these.
