Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Record approximate weekly time spent in four activity categories: on-screen, other non-active, active leisure/sports, and active chores.

  • Reflect in writing on what a personal activity log reveals about one's own lifestyle.

  • Design a revised weekly activity plan aimed at improving overall wellbeing.

Teaching tips

  • Have students complete the first chart over an actual week (or from memory of a typical week) before starting the reflection questions, since the prompts ask them to interpret their own data.

  • Pair students for the "share your thoughts with a friend" prompt on page 1 rather than leaving it as silent independent work, since the chart is written as a paired discussion point.

  • Use the second "NEW and IMPROVED" chart as a follow-up assignment once the first chart and reflection are complete, not as a same-day second activity.

Skills covered

  • Self-monitoring and data recording — students estimate and log time spent in four activity categories across a typical week.

  • Reflective analysis — students interpret their own logged data to answer what it reveals about their lifestyle.

  • Goal-setting — students redesign their weekly activity plan on the second chart to target improved wellbeing.
