A Christmas Carol: Escape Room

A Christmas Carol: Escape Room
Holiday & Seasonal, Holidays, Christmas, Grade 6, 7, 8, Escape Room, Activities

Need an after-reading activity for A Christmas Carol that will keep your middle school students engaged until break arrives? Try this NO PREP digital and a little prep printable escape room game that will have your students analyzing how Dickens both used and altered history and how this influenced his characters' perspectives. Use this escape activity to: 1. Compare and contrast a fictional portrayal of a time, place, or characters and a historicalaccount of the same period as a means of understanding how authors of fiction use or alter history. 2. Trace and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, assessing whether the reasoning is sound and the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims. 3. Analyze how an author develops and contrasts the points of view of different characters or narrators in a text. This resource comes with both digital puzzles & paper puzzles but all the "locks" are digital! The first puzzle is an "easy win" to be sure and get all your students engaged. But don't worry, each puzzle gets a little bit harder as the students progress. That being said, these puzzles took my students 2 class periods to fully complete. As students "escaped", I gave them their reward - a small candy cane - but you can use whatever reward suits you and your class! (Candy canes are not included.) Your students will love this activity because it is interestingly challenging - they want to crack the codes! You will love it because it is a proven winner - I received 2 ratings of "innovating" on my formal observation using this very escape room! TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Laura R. said "This was the first escape room we used in class. I was a little nervous but it was perfect. We had the students working together in breakout rooms. They really enjoyed it. I'll definitely be looking for more." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Melissa T. said "Great tool! It was a great assessment to use after reading and watching."
