Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Money can be a tricky topic to teach. Even so, we know kids need to be better prepared than we were with regards to financial literacy. Investing, spending, saving, and generosity are all twists and turns kids can take as they get their imaginations rolling! Including the appropriate sequence of events, as well as a conflict is key. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders who enjoy learning about space and demonstrating their knowledge of it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and characters in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. *Note, some learners may require a basic explanation of what stocks, investments, and savings accounts are. If you want to give students extra practice with skip counting, I have just the resource for you. What You Get: This is a Number Sequences Worksheet that is ideal for 3rd grade students who have been introduced to more complex sequencing patterns. It is a 2-page printable with 3 sets of problems that increase in difficulty. The increasing difficulty allows you to scaffold instruction and model problems to guide students through completing this worksheet. How To Implement This Resource: You can print off enough copies of this worksheet for each student to have. You may also choose to print only a few copies and laminate those. If you choose to laminate them, students can use dry erase markers to write answers. This is a great way to turn this into a math center or small group activity. It can be used during or after a sequencing lesson as a quick informal assessment to determine how well students are grasping the concept. In the first section, students will complete three different number sequences and write the rule or pattern for each one. The sequences include: -- 4 digit numbers -- 3 digit numbers counting down --Decimals counting down In the second section, students will create their own number sequencing for 6 different starting numbers. They are organized in such a way that your students can develop their proficiency one step at a time, beginning with no regrouping, then bringing in regrouping in easy stages until they are ready to add up three or four 3-digit numbers with regrouping with units, tens and hundreds.
