Listen & Draw - Activity to Improve Speaking & Listening Skills | Beginner & Intermediate

Listen & Draw - Activity to Improve Speaking & Listening Skills | Beginner & Intermediate
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Not Grade Specific, Drawing Templates & Outlines, Worksheets & Printables

Develop strong listening and speaking skills in your students with this engaging and enjoyable activity, designed to promote success in school and life. This listening and speaking exercise not only focuses on enhancing both communication skills but also provides an entertaining experience that students usually love. In this activity, students work in pairs or small groups to carefully listen to their partners and follow their instructions accurately. The goal is to replicate their partners' drawings as closely as possible, which requires attentive listening and precise direction-following. The exercise encourages the development of listening skills for the listener and descriptive abilities and English accuracy for the speaker. It fosters clear, concise, and accurate speaking while also practicing essential vocabulary. For optimal results, it is recommended that the teacher models the activity for the class first. By selecting a picture and describing it in great detail without revealing it, the teacher demonstrates the level of accuracy and time expectations that students should follow when working in pairs. Once students have completed their drawings based on the teacher's description, they can hold up their artwork before the original picture is revealed, either printed in large format or displayed on the main class screen. While using a pencil is sufficient, incorporating colored pencils or crayons can truly bring the activity to life and add an extra layer of excitement. To ensure the students remain focused on their own drawings and do not rely on glimpses of others' work, it is helpful to have the class work on multiple pictures simultaneously. Alternatively, strategic seating arrangements can solve this issue if you prefer to conduct the activity with only two pictures at a time. Invest in this listening and speaking activity today and witness the significant improvement in your students' communication skills, while providing them with an enjoyable and memorable learning experience. This is for more advanced/older students. If you'd prefer a simpler version for younger/beginner learners, check out my Draw My Monster activity here: https://admin.teachsimple.com/dashboard/products/catalog/6290b82bb93fcc2c984932c5

FR Blend Find and Colour Phonics Worksheet to Develop Phonemic
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

This FR fun, Find and Color worksheet for initial blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the FR blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.

Math, Patterns, Early Math, Numbers, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games

Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing skip counting by 8 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on skip counting in 8s! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. Speech Presentation and Videography with Assessment Rubrics

Speech Presentation and Videography with Assessment Rubrics
Social Studies, Not Grade Specific, Presentations, Teacher Tools

Speech Presentation and Videography with Assessment Rubrics Over the thirty-two years I taught, I was committed to a differentiated instruction practice. “Differentiated Instruction” is a teaching method in which the number of students who perform well is increased by offering a variety of equivalent ways to learn and show what they have learned. It is a far more satisfying method for teacher and student to offer alternative work product options of equivalent difficulty. This would be in contrast to a traditional method where everyone takes the same test at the end of a unit. While maintaining a healthy respect for traditional assessments in high stakes situations and the usefulness of standardized testing, one can still create a classroom environment where students can demonstrate their progress through multiple means. I have a large collection of rubrics for different kinds of "capstone" assignments for teaching social studies. This collection: scoring rubrics for grading student performances for giving a speech, doing a class presentation, or producing a short video. This Speech Presentation and Videography with Assessment Rubrics resource comes with four different rubrics: Five minute presentation rubric High School Video Documentary rubric Speech rubric Video Documentary rubric Differentiated instruction started to became popular in the late 1990s. In my view, many did not do this well because they left out an important feature: if a student has an alternative assignment to the unit test, that assignment must be of equivalent difficulty. This is a challenging feat to accomplish for the teacher, but not impossible. One way to do this is using a statistical tool called z-score standardization. In this way, scores on the traditional test and scores on the alternative assignment can be compared such that one can see how more or less difficult the alternative task is and, consequently, how to score it.
