Snow Day Adventure Writing Challenge | Creativity & Acts of Kindness!
P.E. & Health, ELA, Writing, Creative Writing, Grammar, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Snow days are a rite of passage in childhood, and are amazing opportunities to make memories of various sensory experiences. Learners will choose where their snow day adventure takes place, the tools they'll need, a project they'll build, and a good deed they'll do during their snow day! The SEL connections are varied, but focus on sharing a moment of joy with others who might need a hand, a smile, or a cup of cocoa on this cold day. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders as they take on the cognitively heavy task of writing a narrative, while also supporting them with the scaffolding and inspiration in the provided idea matrix. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4+ extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

"The Boston Tea Party" - A History Play
Social Studies, History, History: USA, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12, Activities
If you teach about the Road to Revolution in your class, this is a great way to get your students involved and engaged when you reach the Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party 1773. Having students reenact history is an excellent way for them to "experience" what events were like. This is a great example. This play was written using eyewitness accounts and other excellent sources including information from the Boston Tea Party museum. If ever in Boston it is a must do! You even get to throw the tea overboard as a guest of the museum! It was a ton of fun. Bring the Tea Party to life in your classroom with this play. If you get the time, please write a comment/feedback and let me know what you think of it.

Addition by bridging through 100 up to 1000 - A Mental Strategy
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Grade 3, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
Bridging through 100s helps students in a number of ways: It makes addition with large numbers feel much easier because they are broken down into smaller numbers according to their place value and dealt with one step at a time. It helps in the understanding of place value as students think about tens and ones separately. It's excellent for developing mental math skills It provides an alternative strategy to using the standard method or algorithm. You have a choice of four sets of worksheets. The first set contains addition questions where the first and second addends are multiples of 10, so the focus here is on the bridging of a multiple of 100 in the simplest form. The second set has the first addend a multiple of 10, whilst the second addend is a number between 11 and 99. Both of the above sets have the questions laid out in a visual format that emphasizes the bridging through 100. The third and fourth sets contain the same range of numbers for both addends as above. but now the worksheets are presented in a way that students can either continue with the visual format of the previous two sets or choose how to present their workings demonstrating their understanding of addition through bridging. How many worksheets in each set ? A standout feature is the worksheet randomization. With a single click, educators can generate an entirely new set of questions, making it a renewable resource for the entire school year. Be it for classwork, revision, or homework, adaptability ensures students achieve proficiency in the topic. As these worksheets need little explanation and no preparation, they are ideal if you need to leave work for a substitute teacher. Answers found on the second page of every worksheet are automatically generated when you create a new worksheet. Teaching Pages These cover the visual format of the first two worksheets. They are ideal for a whole class activity as an introduction to the worksheets or as a means to review the topic later on if needed. Pupils can come to the Whiteboard and enter solutions and get immediate feedback. Lastly, it's essential to note that these resources are compatible PDF documents. They operate seamlessly with the official Adobe Acrobat Reader on both Windows and Mac. Plus, the randomizing features are effortlessly accessible via touchscreen devices or interactive whiteboards.
