Halloween Team Quest - General Knowledge Team Building Quiz for Middle School

A Halloween activity which promotes the concepts of working as a team and individually contributing to the success of a team. It is a 51 question, animated, interactive team quiz with built – in scoreboard for up to seven teams. All questions are pictorial and multiple choice. A wide-range of topical and historical general knowledge is included. As well as asking a question, a lot of slides also provide some interesting snippets about the topic so pupils are expanding their general knowledge as well as enjoying the activity. Topics include: > geography > history > sport > nature > science > music > astrology > current affairs > film > art > flags of the world > famous people > famous landmarks Each team will attempt their general knowledge team round of three questions. The answer to each question must be decided by the whole team. If a wrong answer is given, the next question goes to the first hand up and, if correct, that person’s team get to try the rest of the round. Each team will also have to solve the clues to identify a well - known phrase or saying. There are four lightning rounds in which team members consult to try to identify a slowly revealed person or landmark. Additionally there are four unscramble and identify rounds which consists of a picture which has been cut up and rearranged. This is an individual not a team round. Finally the fifteen - question individual bonus round. This round allows flexibility in terms of the time the quiz takes as not all the questions have to be attempted. The quiz therefore can last between 40 and 50 minutes. There are also a number of slides which give interesting facts and myths about Halloween and a few scary surprises to make sure no one looses focus! As a classroom teacher I love to get my students up and active in class. Here is another chance to do just that. This time it is about the hated Stamp Act. I've also included some follow up questions that I discuss with my students or have them journal once we finish the play. Here is what's covered in this play: British viewpoint on taxing their colonies in North America. A description of the stamp tax and why it was enacted. The Virginia Resolves. The Stamp Act Congress and the writing of the Declaration of Rights and Grievances. Reaction by the people in the colonies to the Stamp Act A reminder that some in America supported the King and Parliament in this matter.

The follow up activity works well with continuing the lesson by learning what the Mayflower Compact actually says. It is a great way to incorporate the use of a primary source document into the lesson. Students put the words of the pilgrims into language they understand. It is a neat activity that I have used over and over.

Are you teaching about the Declaration of Independence in your classroom? Here is an activity to help bring it alive to your students. This play will take about 20-25 minutes depending on how you present or use it in your classroom. It is a great lesson enhancer! Students love to be moving around and engaged in class activities. This is perfect for that because all students may be involved if you choose! Have fun debriefing the play after you finish it with your students. They will have some good questions! I've also included a Declaration of Independence (DOI) activity . This activity "breaks down" the DOI - the five sections (The Preamble - Reasons for the Separation, the Rights of the People, the Tyrannical Acts of the King or List of Grievances, the Attempts at Reconciliation, and the declaration of being free and independent states!) The activity can take around 20-25 minutes, as well. Both of these activities will help you bring the Declaration of Independence alive in your classroom! "The Boston Tea Party" - A History Play

If you teach about the Road to Revolution in your class, this is a great way to get your students involved and engaged when you reach the Tea Act of 1773 and the Boston Tea Party 1773. Having students reenact history is an excellent way for them to "experience" what events were like. This is a great example. This play was written using eyewitness accounts and other excellent sources including information from the Boston Tea Party museum. If ever in Boston it is a must do! You even get to throw the tea overboard as a guest of the museum! It was a ton of fun. Bring the Tea Party to life in your classroom with this play.
