Well-written narrative nonfiction or creative nonfiction is not only just as enjoyable as fiction, but many students discover that they enjoy narrative nonfiction more than fiction. For students for whom reading is not a go-to activity, reading creative nonfiction might just be the answer for them. Fortunately, there are many excellent narrative nonfiction books available for our students at all grade levels. They run the gamut of science, history, adventure, crime, travel, space, the ocean, rainforests, climate change. Many fiction readers groan when I first introduce this project, but once they find the book that pulls them in, they develop a whole new appreciation for this genre. This 4-5 week unit (including reading a narrative nonfiction book)offers a number of opportunities for students to work alone, in partners, and in small groups as they learn how to complete the writing tasks for this project. The project includes 3 required writing tasks: a book review, a text-to-world connection, and a newspaper article. They then can choose 4 of the remaining 7 tasks to complete. (You can easily modify this to meet your students’ needs and depending on the time you would like to spend on this project.) I have provided 5 lesson plans for this project, 14 handouts, including graphic organizers, a self-evaluation, grading guidelines, and 5 rubrics. The genre study can be easily adapted to upper elementary and high school. This resource downloads as a pdf but includes a google doc force copy link on the Table of Contents page. COUNT NUMBERS, WRITE AND PAINT - Count Math Activity
Math, Numbers, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, 2, Activities

1. Introduction As is known by all educational agents, learning to count is a fundamental skill and capacity that children must develop for their mathematical and cognitive improvement. For this reason, today I have developed this fantastic worksheet on geometric figures, which will involve your students counting, as well as painting. 2.Objective The objective of this educational sheet is the following: -Develop basic mathematical skills: Learning to count is the first step in developing advanced mathematical skills. Counting provides a solid foundation for later understanding more complex concepts such as addition (addition), subtraction (subtraction), and other basic mathematical operations. - Improve cognitive coordination: Counting involves the coordination of understanding numbers along with the action and/or physical activity of being able to count objects or enumerate sequences. This learning process will improve cognitive coordination and help students develop increasingly advanced mental skills or abilities. -Encourage logical reasoning: Counting involves an orderly and logical sequence of numbers. When our students are learning to count, children will be developing logical reasoning skills since they will be able to understand numerical order and the relationships between numbers. - Support language development: Counting quantities or objects involves the use of numbers and words, which will contribute to the language development of the infant who will use this worksheet. In this way, children will learn to associate words with quantities and express mathematical concepts verbally, which is essential for academic success. - Promote problem solving: Learning to count will also promote the ability to solve problems, since children must understand and then apply the concept of counting to solve situations in their daily lives related to counting. 3.Order, scheme and stages Start your math class with a relaxing dynamic, or a motivational song related to how fun math can be. Then hand out the printed activity for your children to start with the activity . Ask them to use their markers, colors and/or colorful supplies to solve the worksheet. 4.Grades or ages This counting worksheet is intended for children ages 3 to 6, who are learning about their first numbers and counting. Also because at this time they enjoy painting activities a lot. 5. Form of application Print this worksheet and distribute it to your students individually. 6. Answer keys This game does not require answers. 7.Use text labels mathematics, mathematics worksheets, counting, learning to count, counting, mathematics activities. 8.Rules Specified above. 9.File types The archive is in PDF format. 10.Number of pages This document contains 8 pages.

Introduction As is known by multiple educational agents, the ability to draw points provides multiple benefits in the development of children, especially if they are still young. 2.Objective This fabulous worksheet to review fruits and animals aims at some of the following points that I will explain below: - Develop fine motor skills: By working with dotted lines, your children will develop hand-eye coordination and, above all, they will perfect their fine motor skills. This is based on the fact that these types of activities will require control and precision in the movement of the fingers and hands, which is essential to perform tasks such as fastening buttons, writing and many other activities where we require the coordinated use of the hands. hands. - Cognitively stimulate their minds: By working with review points, we also contribute to the cognitive development of our children, because this type of activities helps them practice their concentration and attention, because they must follow the sequence carefully to avoid making mistakes and achieve almost a fine and as coordinated line as possible. Likewise, this activity will promote planning and mental organization. 3.Order, scheme and stages It is suggested to start the class with a dynamic that encourages your students. You can propose a song, a dynamic related to fruits and animals. Then distribute the token and play some music or song in the background so that your students work with more inspiration and the art class is very fun for them. 4.Grades or ages It is suggested to apply this sheet in children from 3 to 6 years old. 5. Plotting Polygons on 4 Quadrant Grids: Make a Logo: 6th Grade Geometry

Plotting Polygons on 4 Quadrant Grids: Make a Logo: 6th Grade Geometry
Math, Geometry, Graphing, Common Core, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Activities

Plotting polygons on a 4 quadrant grid? Seems like a tough standard to make interesting... I've got you covered! This comprehensive math lesson gets students to plot different polygons on a Cartesian plane, identify the kinds of polygons, think about symmetry, and discuss how to measure side lengths using the ordered pairs of the vertices: all while applying these skills to a real-life situation: making a logo! Here's how it works: First, students plot ordered pairs on a four quadrant grid (using integers). This will create 5 different polygons in a simple logo shape. Next, students answer questions that will get them thinking deeply about the math they are using and looking for relationships. Questions include: How many quadrilaterals did you draw ? Explain how you can figure out the length of shape 4 just by looking at its coordinates. What are two lines of symmetry for shape 5? After that, students have a fresh grid on which they can design their own logo. They carefully write out the ordered pairs in the correct order to create their logo. Finally, they trade their new instructions with a friend to see if they can re-create each other's logos! Grades to Use With: This lesson is specifically designed to address 6th grade geometry Common Core State Standard 6.G.A.3, but it can also be used for enrichment in 5th grade classrooms, or as a review in 7th and 8th grade classes. It could also be used in high school special education settings.
