Alphabet Flash Cards
ELA, Language Development, Phonics, Kindergarten, Preschool, Grade 1, Worksheets & Printables, Flashcards

Learning the alphabet is important for children because it is the foundation for developing reading and writing skills. Knowing the letters and their sounds allows children to start decoding words and building their vocabulary. It also helps them to understand the structure of written language and how it relates to spoken language. Additionally, learning the alphabet can help children with memory and cognitive development. Overall, the alphabet is a fundamental aspect of literacy that children need to master in order to be successful readers and writers. Displaying the alphabet in a classroom can be useful for young students who are just learning to read and write. It helps them to visually recognise the letters and their order, and can make it easier for them to learn the alphabet song or recite the letters in order. It also serves as a reference for students who are working on spelling or writing tasks. These alphabet flash cards show capital and lower case letters with a corresponding picture for that sound. These could be used as flash cards for a teaching aid during a phonics lesson or as a classroom display. Included in the resource are 13 PDf pages with 2 flash cards per page Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt Clip Art

Good Listening Social Story

Good Listening Social Story
Special Resources, Social Skills, Not Grade Specific,

Social stories are a key tool for building social-emotional skills in children, especially those with autism or anxiety. Using simple language and a warm tone, these stories walk kids through various social situations and expectations. This social story teaches children the importance of good listening in the classroom. The story uses repetition and positive reinforcement to explain what good listening looks like - eyes looking at the teacher, ears hearing the words, mouth quiet, body calm and still. Good listening means paying attention to understand, rather than just hearing words. It explains how good listening helps students learn, makes teachers happy, and lets friends share. The story reassures that everyone struggles to listen sometimes. When minds wander, children can practice refocusing on the speaker. Instead of getting upset, take a breath and pay attention again. Parents and teachers can review this story to instill active listening habits in children who struggle to focus. Visual learners appreciate the clear sequence of events and explicit expectations. Knowing classroom norms ahead of time reduces anxiety. The supportive tone builds confidence in social-emotional learning. From following directions to comprehending lessons, good listening is essential for classroom success. This social story breaks down the mindset and behavior that leads to engaged, attentive learning. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them. Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt.

It stands as a supportive resource for any child navigating the complexities of social situations or concepts, providing a foundation for improved communication and social skills. In essence, our "I Wear Glasses" Social Story goes beyond informing; it fosters understanding, acceptance, and a positive mindset, allowing children to confidently embrace and communicate about wearing glasses as a natural and important part of their daily routine. These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them. Clipart images courtesy of Kari Bolt.
