These first phonic reading books help to support the blending of CVC words with a short vowel sound, suitable for those who just beginning to read with phonics. Includes scope and sequence. Parents, teachers, special needs teachers, private tutors, anyone who needs them! About these first Phonic readers These books focus exclusively on sounding out words and they only use the key sight (red/sight) words a, is, the, of, which are introduced only gradually. These short words should be learned on a flashcards first, but are best put into context as soon as possible when children usually, quickly pick them up. Pictures are deliberately minimal to encourage the child to gain meaning from the text and not to guess. All of the words are introduced and then met again in subsequent readers, to help develop confidence and fluency. The book s begins with just a few words being introduced. For example, the first book only uses the words a, at, cat, fat, rat, ran. The whole scope and sequence is included in the pack for your reference. Each book lists the sight word/s being used in that book at the beginning. There is also a short introduction to the book to be read by the teacher and discussed with the child. These introductions help to make up for the lack of words in the book and help parents and teachers to have a basis for discussion with the child, so aiding reading comprehension. I have based the stories around loveable characters with whom the children quickly identify: farmer Tom with his animals, his wife, his son Sam and daughter, Pam, his dog, Jiff and the cat. Special needs Due to these books' systematic, phonetic nature, they are highly suitable for special needs children who have failed with other programmes. Many parents have told me they wished they had found these books sooner, or had found them at all, as they would have been ideal for their struggling reader. Phonic workbooks to match the reading books This download also includes five phonic workbooks which accompany the reading books. CVC Decodable Reading Books with a Short Vowel Sound with Workbooks
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Literacy Readers, Teacher Tools
A pack of 16 CVC Words Decodable Phonic reading books Plus 5 matching phonic worksheets -and-printables/workbooks">workbooks to support learning. Created by an Early Years Specialist Teacher (B. Ed) who is currently tutoring children with profound special needs in reading and writing following over 30 years of teaching phonics. I created these phonic readers as I saw the huge need for highly structured, fun-to-read, early-reading books. They are very popular. These books are followed by our sets of: 12 Consonant Blends Reading Books 22 Digraph Reading Books Main features: •The CVC readers only use the words: a/A, is, of, the. •All the other words are 3 letter, decodable words with a short vowel sound. •Pictures make up for the lack of words, while not encouraging guessing. •Each book tries to tell a simple story. •Each book has been tested on children with severe special needs and those with none – all have loved them as they can read them! •The books should be read in order as words from all five vowel families are gradually introduced, starting with those in the /a/ family. 5 matching worksheets -and-printables/workbooks">workbooks to consolidate learning and to help children to integrate their new reading and spelling skills into everyday literacy. Proper punctuation is only used in the last three books. This is deliberate; it helps all children to access the reading material, including those for whom the introduction of capital letters and strange marks can be very off-putting. Who can use these reading books? All beginner readers of any age and ability Struggling readers of all ages and abilities, including those with severe dyslexia/other processing difficulties Teachers, parents, classroom assistants, private tutors - anyone who needs them! Are these phonic reading books and worksheets -and-printables/workbooks">workbooks aligned with the UK Gov requirements or LETRS? Yes - totally. They are based on synthetic, systematic phonics. They are highly structured. How long are the books? The reading books are either 8 or 12 pages long. The worksheets -and-printables/workbooks">workbooks are 12 pages long (the /a/ book is 16). Which words do the books contain? Purely 2 or 3-letter CVC words with a short vowel sound. This includes words ending in double letters but NO consonant blends or /ck/ words. I have tried to use words/experiences that will be familiar to most children. I have tried to make these stories as sensible as possible with a twist of humour where possible; many phonic readers are nonsense. Can children guess the text from the pictures? NO! Why are these books FREE when other people books cost so much? Are they of lesser quality? They are free as I regard the ability to read as being a fundamental right of every living person. Why should some miss out on top-quality resources because they cannot pay for them? In terms of content, they are top quality, carefully planned and sequenced with the aim of helping as many children as possible get started on the phonic road to reading. What is included? 1 Zip file with 16 reading book PDF files and 5 Workbook PDF files.
