The Imitation Game (2014): Complete Movie Guide

The Imitation Game (2014): Complete Movie Guide
Social Studies, ELA, History, History: World, Grade 8, 9, 10, 11, Games, Activities

The Imitation Game is a 2014 historical drama film directed by Morten Tyldum and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, and Matthew Goode. The film is based on the real-life story of Alan Turing, a brilliant mathematician and cryptanalyst who played a crucial role in cracking the German Enigma code during World War II. The movie is divided into three different time periods, each with its own narrative thread. The first follows Turing's early years as a socially awkward and highly intelligent young man who struggles to fit in with his peers. The second thread focuses on Turing's work during World War II, where he is recruited by the British government to help break the Nazi's secret Enigma code, which they used to encrypt all of their military communications. Turing's team is made up of a diverse group of codebreakers, including Joan Clarke, a brilliant mathematician who becomes Turing's closest friend and confidante. Despite initial setbacks and bureaucratic interference, Turing and his team eventually succeed in cracking the Enigma code, providing the Allies with vital intelligence that helps them win the war. The third and final thread of the film takes place in 1952, several years after the war has ended, when Turing is arrested and charged with homosexuality, which was then a crime in Britain. Despite his contributions to the war effort, Turing is persecuted and forced to undergo chemical castration as punishment. The film ends tragically, with Turing ultimately taking his own life. Overall, The Imitation Game is a gripping and moving tribute to one of the 20th century's most brilliant minds, whose achievements were overshadowed by his persecution and tragic end. This movie guide comes with a character reference guide, 22-questions, and a short introduction into the movie. This product also includes a completed teacher key. Ready to use!! The topics for this movie include: World War II, Battle of Britain, The Engima *** The movie also covers topics related to the LGBQT community. Thumbnail clipart credit: By PrincePadania

"Dances with Wolves" is a 1990 epic Western film directed by and starring Kevin Costner, with a screenplay by Michael Blake, who also wrote the novel on which the film is based. The film is set in the 1860s and tells the story of Lieutenant John Dunbar (Costner), a Union Army officer who is sent to a remote outpost on the American frontier. There, he meets a tribe of Sioux Indians and gradually becomes accepted as one of them. Dunbar, who is given the name "Dances with Wolves" by the Sioux, falls in love with a woman named Stands with a Fist (Mary McDonnell), who was raised by the tribe after her family was killed by white settlers. As Dunbar spends more time with the Sioux, he comes to respect their way of life and begins to question his own beliefs about the Native Americans. However, his presence and friendship with the tribe soon attracts the attention of the U.S. Army, which sees the Sioux as a threat to American expansion. The film culminates in a brutal battle between the U.S. Army and the Sioux, in which Dunbar chooses to fight alongside his adopted tribe. The film ends with Dunbar leaving the Sioux and his old life behind to live among them as one of their own. "Dances with Wolves" was a critical and commercial success, winning seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Costner, and Best Adapted Screenplay for Blake. The film is widely regarded as a classic of the Western genre and is known for its portrayal of Native American culture and history. Healthy Versus Unhealthy Friendships SEL PowerPoint And Game
Special Resources, Life Studies, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Life Skills, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Presentations, Teacher Tools

In this lesson, students will learn about the difference between healthy and unhealthy friendship behaviors. I use the analogy of a stoplight to distinguish between green (healthy), yellow (warning), and red (unhealthy) friendship behaviors. There is a 9-slide PowerPoint presentation that walks you through the entire lesson with slide notes. After the presentation, there is a reinforcing friendship game . The game board and 36 editable friendship behavior cards are on slides 10-19 and can be printed off in color or black and white. The game board needs to be printed in color. There is a fun and short video to show the class about friendship. I utilize whole group, small group, and partner activities in this lesson for engagement and variety. This lesson can flexibly span between 30-45 minute periods based on the amount of discussion you encourage and your needs/time constraints. This resource would be well paired with the Friendship Stoplight Boom Deck I made here: https://teachsimple.com/product/friendship-stoplight-boom-cards In this Boom Deck, students will learn about the 3 different types of friendship behaviors; red, yellow and green. There are 30 cards (some instructional cards explaining the different friendship behaviors) and plenty of task cards for an entire class to take turns on the Smartboard to decide if a situation is red, yellow or green. This is an important friendship skill when learning about making and keeping friends. Both of these resources are great for third, fourth, fifth, sixth and middle school. Feel free to also take a look at the product specifically for teaching children about sharing friendships; https://teachsimple.com/product/sharing-friendships-lesson-and-fun-cooperative-game The first part of the lesson is about the skill of sharing friendships. Then you can print off the cooperative game where students play together for a group goal.
