This volume introduces the V/CV syllable pattern and magic e syllable type, with a focus on 2-3 syllable words. The series carefully scaffolds syllable patterns to ensure mastery before progressing. Multiple visual supports foster independence and confidence with the decoding strategy. Supports are removed as students gain proficiency. Each set includes new words to decode, review of previous patterns, a "Break Before You Read" list to divide words, and a "Break While You Read" activity with sentences for generalization. To further apply skills, students can break words in decodable texts, stories, content vocabulary, and worksheets.
