Candy Corn Subtraction Activity

This candy corn subtraction activity is a hands-on math center for kindergartners and first graders to practice subtracting numbers up to 20. Students will use these Halloween subtraction flash cards with these hands-on subtraction mats to solve each subtraction problem using tens frames, number bonds or number lines.

• Candy Corn Subtraction Flash Cards - There is one subtraction fact card for subtractions problems from 20-20 down to 0-0.

When to Use:

• Math Center - Simply place the material in the math center for students to complete independently or with a partner.

• Flash Cards - Use the candy corn cards to practice subtraction fact fluency or for playing cards in a board game.

• Morning Tub or Basket - This subtraction activity can be placed in a morning bin for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class.

• Small Group Activity - Teachers can pull aside small groups of students to work on targeted subtraction skills.

The math subtraction mats are designed to be laminated and used with dry erase markers to make them reusable for multiple students to use. The teacher may choose to add manipulatives such as mini erasers, counters or other objects to assist students in solving each subtraction equations.

This subtraction math station is a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. The subtraction cards and some of the mats need to be printed and cut apart.
