Product description
From the author
We have so many new skills to teach our young learners, so ensuring that we can keep them engaged very early on is so important. Two ways to do this is by incorporating topics they are interested in and by providing them with hands-on activities.
This is a Counting Dinosaurs 1-10 Printable that is great for your preschool and kindergarten students. You can use this to introduce numbers 1-10 or review them for students who have already mastered number identification.
It is a 4-page printable. You may choose to print copies of each page for every student to complete. It may also be good to print and laminate and allow students to use dry erase markers to complete. Students will love getting to engage in an activity with an alternative writing tool, such as a dry erase marker.
On the first 2 pages, students will count the dinosaurs in each row and trace the number beside the dinosaur(s). The total number of dinosaurs goes to 10. On the 3rd page, students will trace numbers 1-20. On the 4th page, students will trace numbers in a backwards order 20-1.
I hope you enjoy!

Teaching tips & learning objectives
Learning objectives
Count pictured objects in groups from 1 to 10 and trace the matching numeral
Trace numerals 1–20 in forward and backward order
Teaching tips
Laminate the pages so students can trace with dry-erase markers and reuse the set across multiple students or practice sessions.
Use pages one and two for students still connecting quantity to numeral, and save pages three and four (numeral tracing alone, no counting) for students ready to practice writing numbers without a counting step.
Pair the backward-counting page with a countdown routine (e.g. before a transition) to give the 20-to-1 sequence a purpose beyond tracing practice.
Skills covered
One-to-one counting — count the pictured animals in groups from one to ten.
Numeral formation — trace the numeral beside each group.
Number order — trace the separate sequences from 1 to 20 and 20 to 1.

Questions teachers ask about this resource
Does the counting section go all the way to 20, matching the tracing pages?
No -- the counting-with-dinosaurs pages (one and two) only go from 1 to 10; the 1-to-20 range appears only on the separate numeral-tracing pages (three and four), which do not include dinosaurs or a counting task.
