Product description

From the author

We have so many new skills to teach our young learners, so ensuring that we can keep them engaged very early on is so important. Two ways to do this is by incorporating topics they are interested in and by providing them with hands-on activities.

This is a Counting Cars 1-20 Printable that is great for your preschool and kindergarten students. You can use this to introduce numbers 1-20 or review them for students who have already mastered number identification.

It is a 6-page printable. You may choose to print copies of each page for every student to complete. It may also be good to print and laminate and allow students to use dry erase markers to complete. Students will love getting to engage in an activity with an alternative writing tool, such as a dry erase marker.

On the first 4 pages, students will count the cars in each row and trace the number beside the car(s). The total number of cars goes to 20. On the 5th page, students will trace numbers 1-20. On the 6th page, students will trace numbers in a backwards order 20-1.

I hope you enjoy!

Teaching tips & learning objectives

Learning objectives

  • Students can count a group of objects (up to 20 cars) and trace the matching numeral.

  • Students can trace numerals 1 through 20 in both forward and backward sequence.

Teaching tips

  • Laminate the pages and pair with dry-erase markers so the same set can be reused across multiple students or practice sessions.

  • Use the counting pages (1-4) with students who are still connecting quantity to numeral, and the tracing-only pages (5-6) separately for handwriting practice with students who already count accurately.

  • Use the backward tracing page after the forward page. For a separate recall check, cover the model and ask students to say the sequence.

Skills covered

  • One-to-one counting — students count each row of cars and identify the matching quantity.

  • Numeral formation — students trace numerals 1-20 to practice correct number formation.

  • Sequence practice — students trace the number sequence in both forward and backward order.
