DIA DE LOS MUERTOS Activity - Day of the Dead Word Search Puzzle

Join in celebrating Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with our fun and educational Day of the Dead Word Search Puzzle! The word search puzzle is designed for students in grades 3-6 to learn about this amazing holiday’s rich traditions and cultural significance, while building writing and spelling skills! Since this word search can be completed in the classroom or at home, students have the opportunity to learn about this beautiful holiday's bright celebrations of family and loved ones.

This word search uses key" vocabulary words related to Dia de los Muertos, and includes some great opportunities for students to learn some of the symbols, customs, and meanings of this holiday! This type of word search puzzle also provides a step toward teaching the values of diversity and traditions.

There are 30 vocabulary words to find, themed around day of the dead: Altars, Calaveras, Cempasúchil, Celebration, Sugar, Skull, Family, Ofrenda, Marigold, Memories, Spirit, Tradition, Unity, Ancestry, Festival, Day, Dead, Photo, Candle, Journey, Love, Respect, Music, Dance, Heart, Food, Blessing, Honor, Joy, Life, and Culture.

Students will enjoy finding the words, hidden in lots of different directions like: horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. This puzzle can be done by students individually, or in pairs with a classmate; if the puzzle is useful in group work, the students will be encouraged to work together on ideas (teamwork!)!

This is a good-to-go worksheet to use in class as a quick activity, or for homework, or if you are doing lessons celebrating dia de los muertos. It provides a nice way for students to think and reflect on the values of family and remembrance central to this holiday.
