About This Product

Find the Match – Vegetables Game | Visual Vocabulary for ESL & Elementary

This vegetable-themed “Find the Match” game is a quick and easy way to build English vocabulary while keeping students active and alert. I first used it in my ESL class when we started our food unit, and it turned out to be a great mix of fun and focus. Students quickly learned words like carrot, broccoli, and onion without feeling like they were studying.

The set includes 31 cards, each showing six different vegetables. Every pair of cards has exactly one picture in common, which makes the game both visual and fast-paced. There are three versions—round, square, and hexagonal—so you can choose the one that fits best for printing and classroom use. I usually laminate my sets to reuse them year after year.

Playing is simple. Each student gets one card, and another card is placed in the middle. The group races to find the matching picture between the two cards. The first student to call it out keeps the card, and play continues until the deck is gone. I’ve used it as a warm-up, a vocabulary center, and even as a quick end-of-class activity when we had a few minutes left.

The game supports several skills at once: students practice recognizing and naming vegetables in English, build their observation skills, and learn to focus and respond quickly. Because it’s based on pictures, it works well with mixed-ability groups and is easy to adapt for English learners.

Preparation is minimal—just print, cut, and play. It’s great for ESL lessons, science units on plants or nutrition, or as part of a larger theme about healthy food. The colorful vegetable images make it cheerful and engaging without being overwhelming.

This resource works well for grades K–5, especially in ESL, ELL, or bilingual classrooms. It’s a fun, visual way to strengthen vocabulary and cooperation while keeping learning light and active.
