Halloween Number Matching Game –

Spot It Style Cards for Numbers 0–30

This Halloween number game is designed in the style of “Spot It,” but with a focus on number recognition from 0 to 30. I first tried it with a kindergarten group who were working on number sense and one-to-one matching, and it quickly became a favorite activity. The Halloween images give it a seasonal feel, but it stays simple enough for young learners to use without distraction.

The set comes with 93 cards, divided into three full decks of 31 cards each. Every card shows six numbers, and any two cards always have exactly one number in common. Students compare their card with the one in the center pile and race to spot the matching number. The first to call it out keeps the card. Play continues until the pile is finished, and the player with the most cards wins.

There are three versions of the cards included: round, square, and hexagonal. I usually prepare one laminated set to use in math centers, while keeping the printer-friendly square cards as a backup. The hexagonal cards are fun if you want to offer a different look, and they tend to spark extra interest.

This game supports a range of early math skills. Students practice number recognition, visual scanning, and quick decision-making. In small groups, it also helps with social learning – taking turns, encouraging others, and coping with both winning and losing. For some of my ESL students, saying the numbers out loud during the game provided extra practice with pronunciation.

It works well in centers, as a transition activity, or as an option for early finishers. The preparation is minimal: just print, cut, and, if you’d like, laminate for durability. Because the game can be played quickly, it fits easily into a short block of class time.

Recommended for Pre-K, kindergarten, and grade 1, though older students might enjoy it as a light challenge. This resource combines the excitement of a Halloween theme with meaningful math practice, and it can be reused year after year.
