Finding Distance Between Integers Using Absolute Value Practice Sheet

This file is a two page practice sheet for 7th grade math students to find the distance between integers and to recognize the absolute value statement that would be used to find the distance between integers.  There are 16 problems:  four where students are asked to find the distance between a pair of integers, four real world problems with integers and distance, four multiple choice where students are asked to determine the absolute value statement used to find the distance between integers, and four real world problems and absolute value statements. The answer key is included. 

The concept of distance is critical in many real-life situations, like navigation, measuring space, and analyzing data.  Absolute value allows students to think about "distance" abstractly, not just in physical terms but also in mathematical ones. It helps build an intuitive grasp of how numbers relate to each other on a number line. The idea of absolute value will be crucial for students later in algebra when they solve equations or inequalities involving absolute values.
