C'est en Alsace qu'a eu lieu la première vente de sapin de Noël en 1521. À l'époque, il n'était décoré qu'avec des pommes rouges. Plus tard, on y a ajouté des friandises, des gâteaux et des roses en papier. La boule de Noël est arrivée en 1858 et était en verre.
