Geology - Gemology - Mineralogy: Jewelry School Research Project Students take on the role of a gemology student researching gems and minerals to prepare a report for jewelry school. This science research project guides learners to use textbooks, encyclopedias, or reputable websites to find key facts about gemstones. Information to research includes hardness, crystal system, cleavage, fracture, luster, color streak, and more. The resource scaffolds the research process with a chart to organize findings on 10 different gems and minerals. Students summarize research in a written report or creative visual presentation. This cross-curricular gemology project develops critical thinking skills and content knowledge in earth science for 8th grade and up. Use it for whole class, small groups, or independent study.
