National Find a Rainbow Day Word Search - Colorful Classroom Activity

I made this rainbow word search last March for my 2nd graders to celebrate National Find a Rainbow Day (April 3rd). It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 rainbow-related words hidden in all directions - perfect for when we needed a fun but educational activity during our weather unit.

The word list includes:
• Basic color words ("red," "blue")
• Science terms ("spectrum," "refraction")
• Fun rainbow items ("gold," "leprechaun")

I remember my students especially loved finding "double rainbow" hidden diagonally - it sparked a great discussion about how rainbows form! The words are in a clear, large font that's easy for young readers.

• A light activity after standardized testing

• St. Patrick's Day or spring celebrations

Page 1 is the word search grid (I like to print this on white paper so kids can color the rainbow border when finished). Page 2 has the answer key - I keep this on my clipboard for quick checking.

Last year, we paired this with a "rainbow scavenger hunt" where students checked off colors they found in our classroom. The word "violet" led to a nice teachable moment about the color purple!
